Q. How warm are Steger Mukluks? A. Steger Mukluks are the warmest footwear available. When your feet roll forward in a soft-soled boot, your nerve endings are stimulated to supply more warmth-giving blood to that area. It is the same as when your hands get cold, you move them to get more blood supply. Q. Which Mukluk is the warmest? A. It is only by going to larger and wider sizes, Arctics or wides, that you gain the ability to add more insulation and therefore create a warmer boot for extreme conditions. Remember that for normal winter weather (+20ºF to -20ºF) and normal daily use, regular sizes are fine as indicated on the sizing chart. All Steger Mukluks are made from the same materials and there is no significant difference in warmth between an Ojibwa and an Traditional style boot in the same size. Q. Is the moosehide waterproof? A. The full-grain moosehide has little natural water repellency. Water repellency can be achieved easily and application is determined by use. The best working water repellent for our boots is available in the Water Repellent Section. Q. Can I make my Mukluks and Moccasins waterproof? A. Steger Mukluks Water Repellent gives the moosehide the highest degree of water repellency. To our knowledge, it's not possible to make soft leathers COMPLETELY waterproof even though many products make that claim. Q. When do I need insoles in my Mukluks? A. In the Designer Collection (Pueblo Arrow, Pueblo Thunder, Lakota, Jackie, Many Mountains), insoles are provided in the mukluks. For all other mukluk styles with the 9mm wool felt liner, a pair of wool felt insoles is provided, and can be worn inside the liner or under it, whichever works best for you. If your boots are snug, wear them until you can feel the boots have stretched enough to add the insoles. Q. Can I use orthotics in my mukluks? A. Yes! Many of our customers use their personal orthotics in Steger Mukluks and Moccasins. Q. May I return or exchange my Steger footwear? A. See our return policy page.
